Our History
Since its inception in August 2015, the Haitian-American Community Coalition of SW Florida (HACC), a 501 (c) (4) organization, has strived to promote social justice and human rights for Haitian-Americans. The group provides a voice for the “Invisible Demographic.”
HACC members work diligently in our local communities in support of our organization’s Mission and Vision. We have:
- Spoken at public meetings and appeared on local media to advocate for the issues and needs of the Haitian-American community
- Registered new voters in the Haitian-American community
- Sponsored political forums and endorsed local candidates
- Participated in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative March
- Celebrated Haitian Flag Day with a HACC sponsored festival
- Participated in Haitian community religious organization crusades and revivals
- Held Galas to raise money for scholarships for deserving Lee County 12th graders of Haitian heritage.
- Heightened awareness in the Lee County School District of the necessity of supplying more resources to meet the needs of our mono-lingual children, including the recruitment of Haitian-Creole speaking ESOL teachers and provisions for testing our ESOL students in their first language.
- Initiated afterschool computer-assisted learning programs in Fort Myers and Cape Coral to assist our children in math and in language.
- Appeared on local media to advocate for the issues and needs of the Haitian-American community
